A traditional CO2 laser treatment administers a wide, indiscriminate beam of light to the entire outer layer of skin, affecting not only damaged tissue, but healthy skin as well. Fraxel® is a non-surgical, "fractional" skin resurfacing procedure that creates a microthermal treatment zone in which thousands of minuscule heated columns - or laser microbeams - penetrate deep down into the dermis. This grid treats predetermined sections of damaged tissue, promotes the production of new cells, all while leaving intact the already healthy tissue in-between. Not only are healing times minimized, but the results are quite simply amazing. In fact, within 24-hours, new epidermal tissue develops, ultimately resulting in softer, smoother skin, with more even tones and improved texture. And, benefits are progressive, so with each new day, you'll feel and look like a new person.

The Fraxel re:store™ Laser Treatments are effective on the face, as well as on more sensitive areas of the body such as the neck, chest, hands and arms. It treats sun damaged skin, age and brown spots, acne scars, stretch marks, melasma (mask of pregnancy), and periorbital lines and wrinkles.

For optimal results, three to five, 30-minute sessions - each treating 10 to 20% of the skin - are typically required. Depending upon your skin type and condition, as well as the extent of treatment, side-effects are minimal. You may experience a mild sunburn sensation during the first hour or so following treatment. Minor swelling, redness, bronzing and flaking are not uncommon. For most people, side-effects subside within a few days.

Because only a fraction of tissue is treated, it is absolutely safe to continue wearing make-up. It is important, especially here in Southwest Florida, to apply a sunscreen of SPF 30 or greater several times a day. Finally, you should avoid direct sun exposure during the first months following skin resurfacing.
